Colo, Iowa Facts

  • Incorporated April 26, 1876
  • Population at 2000 Census was 868
  • Located at historic junction of Lincoln Highway and Jefferson Highway
  • First town with a Train Depot in Story County and the last one to be torn down in the county
  • Named after "Carlo" a small black dog killed by the train (his young mistress, not being able to speak plainly at her young age, went about calling "Colo, where is Colo?"
